Zenerù
'Best Short Documentary"
Synopsis
The poetic relationship, between the ancient ritual of Zenerù and the life of the hermit shepherd Flaminio, makes us reflect on the border between domestic and wild, between known and unknown.
At the end of the winter, Flaminio, a resistant shepherd, prepares materially and spiritually for the arrival of the spring through daily rituals, using the tools he built for himself: he moves and sows the ground, shears the sheep and makes a woolen suit for the new season. The communities of the valley chase the winter away with cowbells and bonfires through the ritual of Scasada dol Zenerù, which is inserted into the story of the shepherd’s life as a dreamlike element that draws on an ancestral memory. Flaminio’s sensitivity, strongly connected to Nature, allows him to perceive when it is time to call the community to act, starting the ritual.

Tonton Manu
"Best Feature Documentary"
Synopsis
Manu Dibango is eighty years old.
Smiling like a kid, he blows out his birthday cake candles, followed by applause. An hour and half later, he is eighty-five years old. Between these two milestone birthdays, the film directors followed in the day to day footsteps of this smiling, debonair giant; for whom the expression, "quiet strength" seems to have been coined. Composer, musician, journalist, an ambassador of the Francophone world, honoured and distinguished around the world; Manu Dibango has remained himself wherever he may find himself. To the greats of this world, he speaks without flattery, and addresses the lowly with respect, without any condescension. During these five years, from Paris to Douala, from Kinshasa to Rio, from New York to Saint Calais, a small village in La Sarthe where he spent part of his childhood, a curious, open, joyful, honest and caring Manu Dibango crossed fellow brethren.
"A dream bigger than him"
He sometimes evokes the past, but with no place for regret or nostalgia. Manu Dibango is a man of the present, a man in motion, who has a dream greater than himself: to be a bridge between cultures, between generations, between continents. His multiple roots tell the story of his vision of the world, that of mixing, of horizons that cross and enrich each other, of cultures that marry to give birth to a more generous, more human world. He can be both warm and modest. To testify, there are those who love him and surround him, those who have met him and who will never forget him. From Yannick Noah - who calls him Uncle Manu - to Charlélie Couture and Ray Léma, their testimonies reveal the multiple facets of this art lover with a great A. The art he says is all that remains after man: "After all, who remembers who was a minister in Beethoven's time? No one. What's left is Beethoven's work! »

"Behind every note is Africa"

Manu Dibango is a man in a hurry who knows how to take his time. The film is in his image, giving way to long musical tracks, rehearsals, concerts, improvisations, moments of sharing with fellow artists in music, moments of grace where the unique voice of his swinging saxophone flies, swings, sways, exults or murmurs like a confidence.
His love of mixing is also expressed in his practice: this adventurer of music continues to clear unexplored spaces. He is now working to combine his music with that of a symphony orchestra, helping to bring together two worlds that have always been ignored.
Again and again, this unceasing quest for sharing, for sharing the world's cultural treasures, because once and for all, "we must stop being alone together"...

Last of Us: The Last Fishermen of the Lake
"Best Cinematography"
Synopsis
The last fishermen of Lake Maggiore, a photograph of a vanishing world.
On Lake Maggiore there are 25 remaining, the last professional fishermen who bring among themselves stories and ancient knowledge, almost forgotten.
MARCO RODELLA (45) is one of the youngest fishermen left on Lake Maggiore to live solely on his passion: fishing.
Life on the Fishermen's Island has changed quickly, Marco's memories of his grandfather are distant echoes.
Marco wakes up every day at 2 a.m. and goes out on the boat on his own until he returns at 5 a.m. The rest of the day is made to rest and prepare the next day's fishing work.
His friend IVAN SPADONI (48) is now a former fisherman. What’s left is passion and memories that the two share in a fishing museum.
GIORGIO BROVELLI(60) has a business that carries on with the family, the days pass quickly between boat trips, the fish market and the family’s restaurant.
Giorgio tries to train young boys at the job, but everyone leaves him alone at some point.
Giorgio and Marco are distant relatives, but they hardly ever meet.
They and the other fishermen live far apart on the same lake. They are a presence that becomes more and more silent.
Despite everything, Marco doesn’t give up and keeps living on his
catch, solitary on the waters, at night and in the evening,
constantly looking for the freedom to live in nature and with
nature.
Last of us is a slow portrait of a life totally lived on the water
of the lake, far from the noises of the modern world which takes
over. Fishing is no longer what it used to be.
Fishing is easier, but truly a reality with an uncertain destiny.
In a journey of voices and stories, images of the past and
photographs of the present, the last fishermen reveal themselves
in their intimate secrets that, in the future, it is not known who
will keep them again.
